New Features and Infrastructure
Whew! It's been a long time since we've posted anything on our blog. This will change in the coming months, though, since all of our developers have finally graduated from high school. A big pat on the back and congratulations to them all!
Here's a quick rundown of what we've been up to for the last few weeks:
- Migration to NearlyFreeSpeech.net: All of our hosted sites are now running happily on the the NearlyFreeSpeech.net infrastructure. Migrating away from a virtual private server was a decision that was not taken lightly, but we believe the benefits outweigh the costs in this case. Using the NearlyFreeSpeech infrastructure allows us more time to work on our clients' projects, and not spend so much time working on configuring a virtual server.
- Upgrade to Drupal 6.13: As we get some sites moved around internally, we are also upgrading them to Drupal 6.13, which offers a number of security and stability fixes. When this happens for your site, you will notice the new and shiny administrator interface!
- New administrative interface: A lot of work has been done on Drupal 7 to improve the user experience: everything from rearranging items in the administrative interface to new, shiny administrative themes. Unfortunately, Drupal 7 has not been released yet. In an effort to bring an easy to use interface to Drupal 6, Development Seed built the admin module, which changes the look and feel of the administrative section of your website.
- New support and update methods: When your site is upgraded to Drupal 6.13, you will notice that we have included some new tools for our clients. These tools allow us to let you know about planned events on the system (i.e. outages, administrative downtime). They also allow you to request support from us directly from your website! Simply fill in the Support Request form and click "Send" and we will be in touch with you within 24 hours. Using these new tools, we are also able to provide updates to your site. In the event that your site needs updates, we will notify you by email and provide detailed instructions.
- New web designer: We have recently brought on a new web desgner: Destiny Fuerstinger. She will be working with us on future projects, so be sure and watch for her work! You can read about her on the About Us page.
